The Amateur Radio Society of Tennessee Tech (TTARS) operates amateur radio station WA4UCE on the roof of Prescott Hall on the campus of Tennessee Technological University.
A Kenwood TS-440S transceiver is the heart of the HF portion of the station, with antennas for the 10-, 15-, 20-, 40- , and 80-meter bands located about 140 feet above average terrain. Voice, CW, and digital modes are available.
A Kenwood TR-9000 all-mode 2-meter transceiver is available for general use by club members and guests. The club also operates voice repeaters on 145.43(-) MHz. and 442.30(+) MHz.
Club meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 8:00pm in Room 403 of Prescott Hall. Club members also serve as net control operator for the Cookeville Repeater Association Net which meets on 147.21(+) MHz. at 8:30pm Central Time each Tuesday.
Many club members are members of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). TTARS is an ARRL affiliated club station. Many club members are also members of the Cookeville-Putnam County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and work with the Cookeville-Putnam County Emergency Management Agency to provide communications services as volunteers during times of need. Many members are certified SKYWARN Weather Spotters and Advanced Weather Spotters for the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), providing visual spotting, tracking, and verification of local weather conditions. The club's station is used as a primary observation point for weather phenomena approaching Cookeville from virtually any direction as well as the primary net control point for amateur communications with uninterruptable power for most transmission modes.
