The TTU Student Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) is
a group of diverse individuals, both students and professors, dedicated to the exploration
of technical communication. Technical communication is an essential component of every field
of work in the 21st century—in a variety of media, from biological research to promoting
oneself as an artist or musician—to writing and editing magazines and manuals and building
the spaceships of the future.
Technical communication involves the process of gathering information and then presenting it
to others in a way that is clear and easily understood. It requires intensive study of an
audience to determine how to present the information (by report, book, Flash animation,
Web page, canvas, etc.), and then it requires the reshaping of that information to make it
understandable and accessible to a select audience.
At TTU, we are committed to enhancing the education of our STC members by providing a forum
through which the newest information from a variety of majors may be shared and discussed and
where likeminded people may meet on common ground to socialize and develop ways to inform
others at TTU, as well as in the rest of our community, of the importance of technical
communication
STC is the world’s largest professional association for technical communicators—a broad
group of people whose professions range from doctors and engineers to writers and artists—and
consists of over 150 Society chapters on 6 different continents. Some benefits of being a
paying member of STC include the continuing education opportunities, peer networking around
the world, and access to the STC database of jobs—an exclusive service used as a single-source
employment pool for many companies.
