Article I: Definition

Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the Student Government Association of
Tennessee Technological University, hereafter referred to in the constitution as SGA.


Section 2. The membership of the SGA shall consist of graduate and undergraduate students of Tennessee Technological University.

Article II: Purpose and Powers

Section 1. It shall be the purpose of the SGA to fulfill the following responsibilities:

A. Promote student participation in the affairs of the University.
B. Serve as a channel for the expression of student opinion.
C. Support student activities on this campus.
D. Uphold the constitutional liberties and rights and to promote the general welfare of all
segments of the University community.
E. Encourage the development of student responsibility, character, leadership, scholarship, and citizenship.

Section 2. The SGA shall be given the power to do the following:

A. Act for the SGA in such affairs as covered by this constitution.
B. Implement any and all power as may be granted by the student body or the University.

Section 3. Quorum for consideration of business shall consist of two-thirds majority of the total voting members of the Senate.

Article III: Organization

The membership of the SGA shall be served by an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judicial branch.

Article IV: Executive Branch

Section 1. The executive branch shall have as its elected officers the President, the Vice President, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.

Section 2. There shall be an executive cabinet in the executive branch which shall consist of the elected officers of the SGA plus the following:

A. The Executive Assistant to the President.
B. The Secretary of Administrative Affairs.
C. The Secretary of Economic Affairs.
D. The Secretary of State.
E. The Secretary of Academic Affairs.
F. The Secretary of Student Affairs.
G. The Student Judicial Advisor.
H. The Public Relations Director.
I. Any other positions that the SGA President deems necessary and the SGA Senate approves by a two-thirds vote.

Section 3. The Executive Power.

A. The President shall be the acknowledged head of the student body in all student affairs and student relations with the faculty, the staff, and the administration.

The President shall fulfill the following responsibilities:

1. Preside at all meetings of the executive cabinet,
2. Have the power to appoint special committees and administrative assistants,
3. Have the power to enter into agreements, contracts, and consultations as a
representative of the SGA in accordance with University policies,
4. Have supervisory responsibilities over SGA finances, records, and programs,
5. Have the power to veto any bill passed by the Senate,
6. Serve as a voting member of the Administrative Council, Athletic Committee, and
Chapter 606 Student Monies Allocation Committee,
7. Appoint one cabinet member to the Elections Commission, subject to the
ratification of the SGA Senate, and
8. Appoint students to the following positions:

a. The Executive Assistant to the President, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA General Welfare
Committee,
2. Be the coordinator of the activities of any Administrative Assistants,
3. Be able to appoint an Assistant Executive Assistant to the President, subject
to the approval of the President, and
4. Execute any other tasks or acts of representation that the President deems
necessary.

b. The Secretary of Administrative Affairs, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Be responsible for the handling of administrative work for the SGA,
2. Be responsible for monitoring the functions of the University committee
system and the attendance of all student members of these committees,
3. Be responsible for the flow of legislation from the President into the
University committee system and for the maintenance of an accurate
record of the status of all legislation,
4. Be responsible for the planning and coordination of all internal leadership
conferences,
5. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA Academic Affairs
Committee, and
6. Be able to appoint an Assistant Secretary of Administrative Affairs, subject to
the approval of the President.

c. The Secretary of Economic Affairs, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Be the representative of the SGA in all campus economic affairs,
2. Serve as a liaison between the SGA and the local business community,
3. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA Internal Affairs
Committee, and
4. Be able to appoint an Assistant Secretary of Economic Affairs, subject to the
approval of the President.

d. The Secretary of State, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Be responsible for the off-campus activities of the SGA.
2. Be in charge of all affairs of TISL (Tennessee Intercollegiate State
Legislature), scheduling, and planning of meetings, and any other affairs
deemed necessary by the President, or by the official TISL representative,
state level.
3. Coordinate participation in all official conferences,
4. Be responsible for communications between the SGA and other institutions
of higher education in the State,
5. Follow the Speaker Pro-tempore of the senate in the line of succession to the
Presidency,
6. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA Internal Affairs
Committee, and
7. Be able to appoint an Assistant Secretary of State, subject to the approval of
the President.

e. The Secretary of Academic Affairs, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Be responsible for the SGA’s involvement in campus academic affairs,
2. Serve as the official representative of the President in matters relating to
admissions and records of students attending Tennessee Technological
University,
3. Be the liaison between the SGA and the graduate school,
4. Be responsible for the SGA’s participation in the active development of a continuing placement program,
5. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA Academic Affairs
Committee, and
6. Be able to appoint an Assistant Secretary of Academic Affairs, subject to the
approval of the President.

f. The Secretary of Student Affairs, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Be responsible for the SGA’s involvement in student life,
2. Monitor the activities of other student related services at Tennessee
Technological University, such as Safety and Security, Health Services,
Physical Plant, Housing, and Athletics,
3. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA Student Affairs
Committee, and
4. Be able to appoint an Assistant Secretary of Student Affairs, subject to the
approval of the President.

g. The Student Judicial Advisor, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Represent the SGA before the Supreme Court as prescribed elsewhere in this
constitution,
2. Counsel, upon request, any student who desires aid concerning the
University’s judicial system or the SGA Supreme Court,
3. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the SGA Student Affairs
Committee, and
4. Be able to appoint Assistant Judicial Advisors, subject to the approval of the
President.

h. The Public Relations Director, who shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Student Welfare and
Relations Committee,
2. Be responsible for publicizing on all available media the Student Government
Association’s decisions, functions, and activities, and
3. Be able to appoint assistants subject to the approval of the President.

B. The Vice President shall:

1. Discharge the duties of the President in the event that the President is not able to
perform his duties,
2. Become the President in the event of a vacancy in the said office,
3. Act as Speaker of the Senate,
4. Be a non-voting, ex-officio member of all Senate Committees,
5. Vote in the proceedings of the Senate in the case of a tie vote,
6. Recommend, subject to the approval of the Senate, the chairperson for the following committees:
a. Internal Affairs Committee
b. Student Affairs Committee
c. Academic Affairs Committee
d. General Welfare Committee
7. Appoint the members of the standing committees,
8. Have the power to appoint special and ad hoc committees of the Senate,
9. Be able to appoint Committee Coordinator and other officers of the Senate as deemed
necessary, and
10. Appoint a Parliamentarian and Sergeant-At-Arms of the Senate.

C. The Secretary shall:

1. Be in charge of the records of SGA,
2. Be responsible for all the official correspondence of the SGA,
3. Be responsible for recording the proceedings of all Senate and Executive Cabinet
meetings,
4. Be a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Senate,
5. Forward all bills and resolutions passed by the Senate to the President within three
days, and
6. Be responsible for keeping records of all committees and their actions.

D. The Treasurer shall:

1. Be in charge of all the finances of the SGA,
2. Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Internal Affairs Committee,
3. Present a budget report to the Senate before the end of each semester, and
4. Be a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Senate.


Section 4. No member of the executive Branch shall be eligible to serve concurrently in any other capacity or office within the SGA.

Article V. Legislative Branch

Section 1. The Legislative Branch shall be called the Senate.

Section 2. The membership of the Senate shall consist of representatives from each of the
following:

A. The College of Arts and Sciences
B. The College of Business Administration
C. The College of Education
D. The College of Engineering
E. The College of Agriculture and Home Economics
F. The School of Nursing
G. The Graduate School
H. Two members of the Residence Hall Association to be appointed by the RHA President.
I. Four (4) members of the Freshman class.
J. One member from Tech Village, to be appointed by the Tech Village Residential
Association President.

Section 3. The Senate shall have the option of exercising the following duties and powers:

A. To approve and maintain a budget,
B. To enact legislation,
C. To ratify by two-thirds majority vote or to reject any or all executive cabinet officers and SGA Supreme Court members,
D. Committees

1. The Senate shall maintain the following committees:
a. The Internal Affairs Committee, which shall have the following powers and duties.
I. To consider all amendments to the SGA Constitution and By-Laws.
II. To consider all changes in SGA rules of order or procedure,
III. To prepare an annual budget and make recommendations to the Senate
concerning all expenditure changes in excess of fifty (50) dollars,
IV. To consider and make recommendations concerning SGA Cabinet appointment,
V. To select three (3) members of its committee to serve on Judicial Selections
Committee,
VI. To select three (3) members of the SGA Senate to serve on the Election
Commission and oversee the ratification of the justice, the cabinet member, and
the two (2) student members of the Election Commission,
VII. To select three (3) members of the SGA Senate to serve on the Senate Review
Committee, and
VIII. To consider all other matters which shall obviously fall under similar areas or
are assigned to the committee by law.

b. The Student Affairs Committee, which shall have the following powers and duties:
I. To be responsible for sponsoring and promoting events which will be beneficial
for the student body,
II. To consider concerns which deal with student life, including but not limited to
the following:

A. Athletics and Intramurals
B. Student Activities and Organizations
C. Housing and Food Services
D. Student Publications

III. To actively protect the welfare, privileges, and rights of the students, and to
initiate investigations into areas of student life concern,
IV. To promote an atmosphere of cooperation and harmony among the students,
faculty, and administration, and
V. To consider all other matters which shall obviously fall under similar areas or are
assigned to the committee by law.

c. The Academic Affairs Committee, which shall have the following powers and duties:
I. To be able to ratify all appointments to the University Assembly and other
standing university committees,
II. To be responsible for the protection of the students’ rights when dealing with
academic divisions of the University,
III. To actively search for and promote ways in which the academic climate of
Tennessee Technological University can be improved, and
IV. To consider all other matters which shall obviously fall under similar areas or are
assigned to the committee by law.

d. The General Welfare Committee, which shall have the following power and duties:
I. To be able to consider all matters which pertain to buildings, grounds, and
facilities on this University,
II. To be able to consider all matters which shall obviously fall under similar areas
or are assigned to the committee by law, and
III. To be responsible for overseeing special projects of the SGA.
2. Each member of the Senate shall serve on one (1) standing committee. Limitations shall be placed on the number of ad-hoc or special committees which a Senator may serve on. Service on ad-hoc or special committees shall not exempt any Senator from service on at least one (1) SGA standing committee.
3. Committee officers: Each standing committee shall have the following officers:
a. A Chairperson - appointed by the SGA Vice President subject to ratification by the
Senate. The Chairperson shall be responsible for conducting the meetings of the
committee, and for reporting the actions of each committee to the full Senate.
b. A Vice Chairperson - elected by the committee. The Vice Chairperson shall conduct
the meetings of the committee in case of absence or inability of the Chairperson.
The Vice Chairperson shall not automatically advance into Chairmanship in the
event of a vacancy of this position.

c. A Secretary - appointed by the chairperson subject to ratification by the committee.
The Secretary shall be responsible for recording the actions of the committee and
for reporting these actions to the SGA Secretary. 4. Legislation:
a. Each piece of legislation considered by the Senate must first be presented to the
committee which most likely covers the content of the legislation.
b. Committees shall have the following powers:
I. To further research legislation.
II. To amend legislation.
III. To send legislation to the full Senate with a recommendation for favorable
passage, a recommendation for failure, or no recommendation.
IV. To consider issues which have not been presented to them in the form of
legislation.
V. To create sub-committees concerning such subjects and composed of such
membership from among the main committee as deemed appropriate by the
committee. The Chairperson of the committee shall, after consultation with the
SGA Vice-President, appoint such officers of sub-committees as deemed
necessary.
c. Legislation shall not remain in committee longer than two weeks, unless so ordered
by the SGA Senate.
d. The Senate shall have the authority to consider legislation without utilizing the
committee system if deemed necessary by a majority vote of the members present.
E. To ratify by two-thirds majority all members of Election Commission,
F. To consider and act on all decisions made by standing, special, and ad-hoc committees of the SGA Senate,
G. To elect, from its membership, a speaker pro-tempore, who shall preside over the Senate in the absence of the Vice President. He shall also assume the Presidency in the event that the Vice-President is unable to fill a vacancy in the Presidency, and
H. To override a presidential veto by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting.

Section 4. No member of the Legislative Branch shall be eligible to serve concurrently in any other capacity or office within the SGA.

Article VI. Judiciary Branch

Section 1. All judicial powers granted to the student government shall be vested in the SGA Supreme Court.

Section 2. The SGA Supreme Court shall have the power to hear and render decisions on all cases brought before it that involve the following:

A. Constitutional interpretations
1. These shall be presented by the Student Judicial Advisor or his/her appointed
assistant(s).
2. A majority decision will be required to render a decision.
B. Student traffic appeals
1. These shall be referred to the Supreme Court by the Office of University Police.
2. These shall be heard by subcommittees of the Supreme Court.

Section 3. The SGA Supreme Court shall have the following duties and powers:

A. Hold impeachment hearings on charges against any elected or appointed official of the SGA when impeachment proceedings have been properly initiated according to Article X Section 3 of this Constitution.
B. Adopt, by a majority vote, its own rules and regulations under which to function,
provided no rule shall be made which is inconsistent with, or in violation of, this
Constitution or official University policy. These rules and regulations shall include a
schedule of meeting times and places. These rules and regulations shall be submitted to
the SGA Secretary within one month of the beginning of the fall semester. After
submission, these rules and regulations may only be amended by a majority vote of the
SGA Senate.
C. Provide for an administrator or faculty member to advise the court in its actions.
D. Present to the President of the University or representative thereof, upon complaint of the Student Judicial Advisor, an opinion whether a University regulation is vague,
ambiguous, and/or in violation of civil law, and make request for clarification of vague
and/or ambiguous regulations, and present a revision of regulations found to be in
violation of civil law.

Section 4. The SGA Supreme Court shall have the following as its members, all of whom must be approved individually by a two-thirds vote of the SGA Senate, after being appointed by the Judiciary Selection committee:

A. The Chief Justice.
B. The Associate Chief Justice
C. The Seven Associate Justices.

Section 5. The Judiciary Selection Committee

A. The Judiciary Selection Committee shall have the following membership:
1. The SGA President
2. The SGA Vice President
3. Three (3) representatives appointed by the Internal Affairs Committee.
B. An appointment to fill an unexpected term of the Judiciary Selection Committee shall be made by the proper authority when a vacancy occurs during a term of office.
C. A chairperson shall be selected by the committee from its membership.
D. All members shall be eligible for reappointment.
E. The Judiciary Selection Committee shall meet at the beginning of the spring semester for the purpose of selecting the justices whenever necessary.
F. The chairperson shall call all meetings.

Section 6. Qualifications of Justices

A. All Justices of the SGA Supreme Court shall have and maintain throughout their terms a minimum overall quality point average of 2.000.
B. All justices shall be members of the student body throughout their terms.
C. Failure of any justice to maintain these minimum requirements shall necessitate the
justice’s resignation, or the initiation of impeachment proceedings.
D. All justices shall be required to meet the following special requirements:
1. All applicants for vacancies must file an application no later than seven (7) days prior to any called meeting of the Judiciary Selection Committee that has been called for the
expressed purpose of filling vacancies,
2. The Chief Justice and the Associate Chief Justice shall be of at least junior classification the fall semester of their selection and shall be selected from the approved justices by a two-thirds vote of members of the SGA Supreme Court,
3. Of the seven (7) Associate Justices, one (1) shall be of sophomore standing the fall
semester after selection, one (1) shall be of junior standing the fall semester after
selection, one (1) shall be of senior standing the fall semester after selection, and three
(3) others must be of at least sophomore standing the fall semester after their selection.
One (1) freshman justice who has completed at least one (1) semester of academic work
will be selected at the beginning of the spring semester at a called meeting of the
Judiciary Selection Committee, and
4. All Justices shall be selected by a majority vote of the Judiciary Selection Committee
and confirmed by a two-thirds vote of the SGA Senate.

Section 7. Duties and powers of the Justices

A. The Chief Justice shall have the following duties and powers:
1. Direct and be responsible for the performance of all duties and functions of the Judicial Branch and its members.
2. Administer the Oath of Office to the SGA officers-elect and the justice-appointees.
3. Appoint one member of the Supreme Court to serve as a member of the Election
Commission, subject to ratification by the SGA Senate.
B. The Associate Chief Justice shall perform the duties of the Chief Justice if the Chief
Justice is unable to perform the said duties.
C. The Associate Justice shall assist the Chief Justice in the performance of his duties.

Section 8. All members of the SGA Supreme Court shall serve for a period of one (1) year, and may not serve for more than four (4) years in succession.

Section 9. Vacancies on the SGA Supreme Court shall be filled within thirty (30) days by the Judiciary Selection Committee.

Section 10. The power of impeachment of elected or appointed officials of the SGA shall be vested in the SGA Senate.

A. The SGA Supreme Court shall submit impeachment charges to the Chief Justice who
shall inform the official, in writing, of the charges against him/her, and of the date, time,
and place of the impeachment hearing. Such a hearing shall take place no earlier than three (3) days after receipt of the written notice.
B. If the Chief Justice is the official being impeached, the Associate Chief Justice shall
implement the procedures outlined in Section 10, SubSection A.
C. The Supreme Court shall determine at the impeachment hearing if there is sufficient
evidence that the accused may be guilty of misconduct or neglect of office as described in Article X, Section 3 of this Constitution.
D. The decision of the Supreme Court on an impeachment hearing shall be sent to the
Senate before its next regular meeting.
E. All impeachments shall be tried by the Senate. When sitting for that purpose the Senators shall be upon oath or affirmation. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, or if he/she be on trial the Associate Chief Justice, shall preside over them. No person shall become convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of the Senators sworn to try the officer impeached.
F. The senate shall elect from their body three (3) members whose duty it shall be to
prosecute impeachment.

Section 11. No member of the Judiciary Branch shall be eligible to serve concurrently in any other capacity or office within the SGA.

Section 12. No member shall be allowed more than two (2) unexcused absences per semester. Chief Justice shall have the implied power to request immediate resignation of said justice. This position shall be filled within two (2) weeks by the SGA President or a committee appointed by the President.

Article VII: Elections and Qualifications

Section 1. Regularly scheduled elections shall be held once during fall semester and twice during spring semester with the following stipulations:

A. The Elections Commission shall be responsible for setting the exact date for every
election.
B. The freshman Senators and homecoming court will be elected during the fall election, the executive officers will be elected during the first spring election, and the senators will be elected in the second spring election.
C. Run-off elections will be held within ten (10) days after a regularly scheduled election.
D. If deemed necessary by a two-thirds vote of the Elections Commission, an extra election may be held at any time during a semester, as long as there is a clear purpose.

Section 2. Voting in SGA elections.

A. All members of the student body shall have the right to vote for officers in any election by the presentation of their Tech ID or a valid driver’s license. Senators shall be elected by their respective colleges, schools, or organizations. If a race for freshman senator is on the ballot, freshman will vote as freshman, and not as members of colleges.
B. A vote by proxy shall be allowed in an election, given that:
1. The student is registered through the Office of Career Services as a co-op student or
is student teaching during the voting period.
2. A written document on company or school letterhead is faxed or delivered to the
Elections Commission containing the following information:
a. A photo-copy of their TTU ID, clearly indicating the picture and social security
number of the student.
b. The vote of the student.
c. The signature of the student.
C. The Elections Commission may review all proxy votes, and has the authority to throw
out a vote by proxy, should any of the requirements in Section B not be met, or should
there be a reasonable question of the validity of the document.

Section 3. All officers shall be elected by a majority of those voting.

A. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes on the first ballot, a run-off election will be held between the two candidates receiving the largest plurality. The candidate
receiving the most votes shall then be declared elected.
B. In the event of a multiple tie, meaning more than two (2) tied members, the run-off
election shall be held between all tied candidates, with the candidate receiving the
majority of votes elected.

Section 4. All senators shall be elected by a plurality of the votes cast.

Section 5. Apportionment of representatives in the Senate shall be one (1) Senator for every two hundred fifty (250) students in each college or school or a major fraction thereof, with a minimum of one (1) Senator per college. Apportionment shall be based on the official current fall semester enrollment figures. The Elections
Commission shall be responsible for reapportionment for the spring election. This shall be completed no later than the third (3rd) Senate meeting of the spring semester.

Section 6. Qualifications

A. All candidates shall have at the time of their election or appointment and maintain
throughout their terms of office a minimum overall quality point average of 2.000.
B. Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen
1. All candidates for Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen shall be students of
at least junior status, enrolled full time with a minimum overall quality point average
of 2.000.
2. All candidates for Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen must be sponsored
by an organization recognized by the University.
3. An organization may sponsor only one (1) candidate for Homecoming King and
one (1) candidate for Homecoming Queen.
C. All elected members of the Executive Branch shall be full-time students of the
University and shall not serve more than two years in the same office.
1. The President and Vice President shall be of at least junior standing the fall semester
following their election.
2. The Secretary and Treasurer shall be of at least sophomore standing the fall semester
following their election.
D. All Senators shall be members of the student body during their terms of office.
1. Senators from colleges and schools shall maintain a major within the college or
school from which they were elected.
2. Senators from the Residence Hall Association and Tech Village shall maintain the
offices in those bodies which qualified them to be Senators.
3. The freshmen Senators shall not be more than second semester freshmen during the
fall semester of the year that they are elected.
E. Failure of any officer or senator to maintain these minimum requirements shall
necessitate that officer’s or senator’s resignation.
F. Each candidate shall be required to release to the Student Government Association
advisor or proper official, by the required date, a consent of release of his/her overall
QPA and an information sheet with name, campus address, phone number, social
security number, e-mail address, and College of major, and
1. A petition of one hundred (100) student legal names must be received in order for
the candidate’s names to be placed on the ballot for the executive offices.
2. A petition of twenty-five (25) student legal names must be received in order for the
candidate’s names to be placed on the ballot for senator.
G. A name other than the candidate’s legal name may be placed on the ballot in addition
to the candidate’s legal name if, in the judgement of the Election Commission, the
candidate is generally known by a name other than a legal name.

Section 7. Elections Commission

A. The Elections Commission shall be composed of seven members: three (3) SGA
Senators, one (1) SGA Cabinet Officer, one (1) SGA Supreme Court Justice, and
two (2) civilian members of the student body.
B. The civilian members shall be those deemed most qualified among applications
solicited from the student body, and shall be selected by the Internal Affairs
Committee. Other members shall be selected as outlined in other Sections of this
Constitution.
C. The Chairperson of the commission shall be elected by the membership of the
commission and shall be one of the SGA Senate members of said committee.
D. No member of the Election Commission may be a candidate for SGA Executive office while serving as a member of the Commission. Commission members may be
candidates for SGA Senate during their term in office, but they shall not oversee
the election from the college or school in which they are a candidate.

Article VIII: Terms of Office

Section 1. The term of office for officers, senators, and justices shall be one (1) year and shall begin when they are sworn in during the spring semester.

Section 2. The term of office for freshman senators and the freshman justice shall begin when they are sworn in and shall end at the end of the spring semester.

Article IX: Oath of Office

The Oath of Office, that shall be administered to all elected officials by the SGA Supreme Court Chief Justice, or his/her designated appointee from the Supreme Court, shall be the following statement:

I, ____________, having been duly elected/appointed as an officer of the Student Government Association of Tennessee Technological University, and ever mindful of the public trust invested in me, do hereby swear to uphold the Constitutional rights, the SGA Constitution and By-Laws, and the liberties of the students.

Article X: Vacancies and Removal from Office

Section 1. When a vacancy occurs in any elected SGA office other than that of the President, a committee shall be formed consisting of the President, Vice President, and three (3) representatives appointed by the Internal Affairs Committee.
A. The appointment shall be effective until the next semester election.
B. The appointment shall be ratified by a two-thirds vote of the SGA Senate.
C. If deemed necessary by the Vice President a special committee shall be appointed to
review the performance of the Senator in question. If the Senator is found to be in
neglect of their duties, the committee shall begin impeachment procedures as stated in
Article X, Section 1, part B.

Section 2. The same procedure shall be used to fill any senate vacancies.

Section 3. Impeachment and Conviction

A. An officer of the SGA charged with neglect of office may be impeached and, if found
guilty of such charge, shall be removed from office, furthermore, if an officer is guilty
of any crime or found to be guilty of any conduct which would reflect dishonor upon
the SGA and/or the University, that officer may be removed by impeachment
proceedings.
B. Impeachment proceedings may be initiated in the following ways:
1. A majority vote of the SGA Senate.
2. A petition of complaint filed with the Supreme Court. This petition may be
made by any enrolled student and must have a minimum of twenty-five (25)
signatures of enrolled students.

Article XI: Miscellaneous

The official alma mater of Tennessee Technological University shall be the Tech Hymn. Purple and Gold shall constitute the official school colors. The official emblem of the University shall be the Golden Eagle.

Article XII: Amendments

This constitution may be amended by an affirmative vote of two thirds of the members of the Senate voting, approval by the Administrative Council, and affirmative vote of two-thirds of the student body who cast ballots in any semester election.

Article XIII: Ratification

This constitution shall be ratified after a vote of two-thirds approval of voting membership of the SGA Senate in office and after review and affirmative action by the Administrative Council of the University, followed by the approval of two-thirds of the voting student body.


By-Laws

Article I: Executive Procedures

Section 1. Maintenance of office hours

A. Each officer shall maintain regular office hours in the SGA office during the fall and
spring semesters. The minimum hours required are as follows:
President: fifteen (15) hours per week
Vice President: eight (8) hours per week
Secretary: eight (8) hours per week
Treasurer: eight (8) hours per week
B. The appointed members of the Cabinet shall serve a minimum of one (1) office hour
per week, accepting that most of work is normally done outside of office and at the
discretion of each cabinet member.
C. The President will announce the office hours for the SGA officers to the advisors of
the SGA, the student newspaper, WTTU and post the office hours in or about the
SGA
