RHA Accomplishments
Alicia Jackson

The Residential Hall Association has made a huge come back this year. RHA started off strong with their part in “Dancing on Dixie.” They provided hundreds of students with free flavored ice cones and cotton candy. Next, RHA proceeded to participate in the Carnival, where several organizations come together to provide students with games and prizes, while socializing with them about their particular organization. Then, RHA provided many of the new students with free food and socialization at Fall Fling. Also, we took part in homecoming, which is something that RHA has not done in years. We were very successful in the clothing drive, and we couldn’t have done it with the help of the residents here on campus. Also, we held a car bash to raise money for supplies needed at Genesis House. For the Christmas holiday, RHA collected donations for the Angel Tree. We raised over $1,100 for the children that we took, and thanks again to the residents on campus that participated. Our biggest accomplishment was the T.A.R.H. conference that was held here at Tech. There were several schools that attended with a little over 100 people. It was a HUGE success. Currently, we are raising money or any other donations for Union University. Also, we are planning for our big Spring Fling event. This is an event for students to relax, play games, eat free food, and enjoy the entertainment before finals.
Not only has the Residential Hall Association provided the residents with several events, but we also have passed several proposals. These proposals are based on the residents’ needs or wants to promote the quality of living on campus. We are working on allowing student to be able to build their own bed lofts by following certain schematics provided by ResLife. The residential halls will be taking part in recycling next fall, so save your paper and bottles. Also, we have gotten hundreds of students’ inputs on what they think we should work on next.
As you can see, the Residential Hall Association has achieved many tasks this year. We will continue to accomplish future events and proposals with the help and participation of our residents living on campus. If you enjoy making a difference on your campus; you should join us today.

Sports in your Shorts:
Taylor Durham

This month we are focusing on the sports around campus. If you don’t already know its ball season around Tech. Both the Baseball and Softball teams are off to a great start on this 2008 season moving their way up in the rankings. Also the tennis team began their season recently in high hopes of winning the division.

As for sports around campus the intramurals are continuing with arena football starting Monday the 17th and will be followed by the indoor soccer. However the big hype is for the softball season in intramurals which will be the last sport of the year.

On a special note we want to continue the congratulations to Stephanie Fischer on the school record (3 home runs in one game score 10-3 vs. Jacksonville state)

Spring Fling is coming soon to a campus near you. This year we are going to have an array of new games to try. Compete against your friends and the clock in the obstacle course and enjoy good food and fun with your friends. Look forward to April 15th for the party to take place. Also live music will accompany the fun.

Its getting warm out there so get out and have some fun and enjoy the spring season.

TARH 2008:
Sarah Young

Tennessee Tech had the distinct privilege of hosting the State Conference for the Tennesee Assiciation of Residential Housing on February 8th, 9th, and 10th. This year had a Pirate theme and a motto of "Exploring New Worlds." RHA spent every waking moment gathering volunteers, finding food donations, and creating a Haunted Pirate Dungeon on the first floor of Maddux/McCord.  WTTU 88.5's own DJKNOW came and hosted a dance for the delegates. We had delegates from schools across Tennesse: University of Tennessee at Knoxville, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, University of Tennessee at Martin, Maryville College, East Tennessee State University, University of Memphis, and of course, Tennessee Tech. Residential Assistants, RHA Presidents, RHA Council members, Hall Council members, and Advisors came to Tech for a time of leadership training and fellowship. They pariticpated in programs set up by the delegates themselves and at the end of the day five programs won a "Top 5 Programs" award. Our own RAs from Browning/Evins, Nick Gibson, Jonathan Sneed, and Willie Harris won a "Top 5" award for their "Burly Man" program. TTU won "School of the Year" at the final awards banquet. We were honored with this because of our willingness to host this year's TARH conference. Even though RHA lost quite a bit of sleep TARH went smoothly and the feedback we have has recieved has been very positive, some even claim it was the best TARH yet.

With a whole slew of new DJ’S and a collection of music bigger than you can shake a stick at, WTTU 88.5 fm is quickly gaining in popularity. After attending a simple, but informative DJ training class the new additions attend a few “buddy shifts” with someone previously trained. Once the new DJ gets to know the ropes of the station and equipment, they are set free to get a solo shift. After a semester with the station, they can apply for an hour-long show during the following semester. The shows currently on air vary from heavy metal to country and from talk to classic rock and all other genres. For more information visit www.tntech.edu/wttu.

If entertainment is still not achieved after looking into the things I have listed, I wholeheartedly believe that the only thing left to do is twiddle one’s thumbs.

Questions, comments, and suggestions should be emailed to rha@tntech.edu.
