What is a Service Sorority?
A service sorority is an organization whose main focus is on SERVICE. (Most sororities that you'll hear about are social sororities. While they may do some service, it isn't their main purpose.) Omega Phi Alpha is the only service sorority at Tech. Last year alone, Epsilon chapter members obtained over 800 hours of community service!
OPA is NOT affiliated with the Pan-Hellenic Council at TTU, which means that we aren't considered a "greek" organization even though we do some of the same things. This gives us the chance to offer different opportunities to our members, including much lower dues.
We complete service projects in four areas: Service to the Community, Service to the University, Service to the Nations of the World, and Service to the Members of the Sorority.
Our past service projects have included: volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at the Putnam County Animal Shelter, playing BINGO with the residents of Cedar Hills Retirement Home, distributing information from M.A.D.D., playing sports with challenged kids in YMCA's Structured Athletics, and raising funds for MDA, just to name a few! New projects are completed every year, and we're always open to new ideas.
Leadership
OPA also offers many leadership opportunities. Epsilon chapter has 13 offices, ranging from President, to Sisterhood Chair, to Service Director. These offices are a great opportunity to step up and become a strong leader! There are also offices at the district level and the national level. Visit the Omega Phi Alpha National web page to learn more about the National organization.
Ask any of our alumnae and you will hear the same thing: That OPA has prepared them for life. Click here to read what Epsilon chapter members have said about OPA!
