Joining Omega Phi Alpha

Beta Mu pledge class, Spring 2004

Join us for Spring Rush January 31-February 3, 2005!

How Can I Join OPA?
First, we ask that all interested girls come to OPA's Rush Week (held separately from Panhellenic Rush week). Rush is a FREE 4-night event where you get to mingle with the sisters and other Rushees and find out what OPA is all about. There are refreshments and games, all within a very friendly and casual atmosphere. Everyone is welcome to come, so feel free to bring friends! You are encouraged to come as many nights as possible, because there will be different activities planned each night!

We realize that OPA might not be for everyone, so you're not obligated to join if you come to Rush. But if you do decide that OPA is something you'd like to be a part of, come to the last night of Rush and let us know. A sister will give you a brief interview, and then all of the sisters, as a group, will decide whether or not to give you a formal bid, or invitation to join.

Okay, so what next?
Once you formally accept your bid on Bid Day, you will be asked to attend Installation, where you will formally become a pledge of Omega Phi Alpha. The pledge period is a ten-week introduction to OPA. During this time, you'll learn OPA's history and how the organization works. You and your pledge sisters will form your own pledge class, and you'll have your own meetings, organize your own service projects and other events.

Pledging is a time commitment, since it can take up a lot of your free time. But it is definitely a worth-while experience! Omega Phi Alpha has a strict policy against hazing, so you will never be asked to do something that you don't want to do. And the bonds that you will make with your pledge sisters will last for a long time!

One of the best things about the pledge experience is having a Big Sister there to help you out and answer your questions. A Big Sister is an active sister that serves as a mentor and friend to the pledge. Each pledge will have at least one Big Sister to help guide her through the pledge period.

I'm still not sure if OPA is right for me...
