Shack-a-thon is a huge success!

Posted by jeremy wendt on April 23, 2011

The first annual TTU Habitat for Humanity Shack-A-Thon was a huge success for the organization, with many students, campus organizations, faculty members, and community members coming out to support the cause. The shacks were creatively designed and constructed by enthusiastic TTU students. The award-winning shacks included a two-story shack with a hula-hoop roof (Sibling Mindedness), a school bus (Sticky Nikki & the Crew), a teepee (Fiji), an American plantation (Omega Phi Alpha), an igloo (Alpha Kappa Psi), and a castle (The Dixie Dudes and Damsels), all resourcefully built with cardboard.
Numerous community sponsors helped make the event very successful. These sponsors included: Bellacino’s, Bella Nails, Books and More, Carmike Highland 12, Chick-fil-a, The Chop Shop, Cracker Barrel, El Tapatio, House of Thai, iNoodle, Little Caesar’s, McDonald’s, Old Navy, Putnam County Habitat for Humanity, Southern Sun, Southern Traditions, Subway, Suntan Village, Taiko, TTU’s Chartwells, Zaxby’s. A special thanks is also extended to the following TTU faculty members who judged the event at 10 p.m. Friday night: Dr. James Akenson, Dr. Julie Baker (Habitat Co-Sponsor), Jason Beach, Dr. George Chitiyo, Cecilia Jenkins, Dr. Jeremy Wendt (Habitat Co-Sponsor), and Dr. Lisa Zagumny.

Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed a "house" being built in the UC! A TTU journalism class has been working dilligently on this project to raise money for the TTU Habitat group. Read more here from The Oracle online...

On the 15th, the TTU Habitat chapter hosted a group of visiting Habitat college students from the Northeast for dinner in the UC (thanks to a little help from Chartwell's and an anonymous donor!). Here are some pics of the evening:

how do I get involved?

At our intro meeting, we will be taking pre-orders for our cool new t-shirts designed by JCarroll. The inaugural shirt will be included with your dues for the year ($20). We are looking forward to all the great things that will happen as a result of this TTU Habitat partnership! Be sure to check out the different committees that you can get hooked up with (or be the chair if you'd like!)

what now for habitat?

Posted by jeremy wendt on November 19, 2010

Please be patient as we get this site functional and figure out all the "stuff" we can accomplish!

In the meantime, here's our "constitution". Also, check out the local Putnam County Habitat site.
