What is CSSA?
The Chinese Student and Scholar Association (CSSA) is one of the most active groups in Tennessee Technological University (TTU). Initially, CSSA was an organization for Chinese students only. It has held various activities such as picnic, barbeque, the Spring Festival Ceremony, etc. Throughout the years as more Chinese students and scholars from all around the world came to study and work at TTU, the CSSA then existed as a student and scholar organization not only to all the students but also to all the Chinese faculty and staff. The name of this group changed from Chinese Student Association (CSA) to Chinese Student and Scholar Association (CSSA).
CSSA is also an organization to all Chinese Americans and Americans who are interested in Chinese language, literature, and culture on TTU campus. Our main goal is to support the non-native English speaking students to survive and prosper here at TTU or USA at large. While promoting mutual understanding among people from different countries, we are set to help out students when difficulties are met, provide helpful services as well as connections to make new friends. Since helping new comers getting comfortable with the new environment is a key function to ensure students' quality study experience as well as the future success, CSSA will be there to provide the necessary assistance.
What do we do?
Provide the new arrived Chinese students an opportunity to settle down: including providing them with temporary places to stay while they search for housing. (These places are usually provided for the new students by volunteer students.)
The CSSA officers in addition to the task of finding housing will also inform these new students how to open a banking account, how to buy a car, and where to locate perishables, etc..
The CSSA holds an orientation for newly arrived Chinese students. During the orientation, we will have students from different majors showing these new students how to register and prepare their studying at TTU.
CSSA holds many activities.
At the beginning of every year, CSSA will mail its newest member directory to every student in order to keep correspondence. |
Welcome to CSSA's new website, my friend! We are hoping that the reconstructed website will benefit every interested user for a friendly information access, rich in contents for information searching; and most important of all, a place for the latest CSSA news updates and information exchanges.
Periodically, we will update CSSA's activities, our pictures, useful information, and any of our available services. We wish to use this new web service to get further closer to our members and friends of CSSA.
Hopefully, in the future our members and friends of CSSA can interact with each other by using the communicating tools under the Discussion section. The Message Board and Feedback tools are available for academic related information exchanges.
