Beginning Drumming Class

We offer the following classes at TTU:

Beginning West African Drumming

The performance of drum rhythms and songs from Ghana. In particular, two pieces are studied: Gahu, a recreational dance of the Ewe people, and Atsi Agbekor, a war dance of the Ewe people.  Students also become acquainted with the family of Ewe drums, including how to tune and care for them.

Advanced West African Drumming

A continuation of the performance of drum rhythms and songs from Ghana and surrounding countries.

Beginning West African Dance

Performance of dances and songs from Ghana. In particular, two pieces are studied: Gahu, a recreational dance of the Ewe people, and Atsi Agbekor, a war dance of the Ewe people.

Advanced West African Dance

A continuation of the performances of dances and songs from Ghana and surrounding countries.

Please refer to the course schedule on the University's Website for details on class times and meeting locations.

Everyone is encouraged to sign up for the beginning classes.  Also, any person who has completed either Beginning West African Dance or Beginning West African Drumming is eligible to join Abusua. No prior musical training or experience is necessary to participate in the classes, only a desire to learn about the traditional music and culture of Ghana.
